Birdhousing
As the blackbird sings for his supper,
the pigeon finally gets home.
Elsewhere, the raven threatens the robin in rent-arrears,
and the magpie makes a move for the vacant address.
The avocet agent relists the abode as a premium nest
surely soon to be taken by a wily wagtail.
The interested eagle urges urgency so the puffin panics
and the drunken dove sends a misplaced message.
As a result, the crows commit a cold-blooded murder
and the starling starts to cry.
Only the owls understand the futility of failure
as the kingfisher covers the crime.
The house martin is ever hopeful for the future of feathers,
but the nightjar knows they will never recover.
