Dionysus looks after his own (the motherless child)

/ his mother’s lover’s lightning scorched her into silence / time was scarce to wonder: what will happen to the boy? / plucked from her ashen womb / still a pink and growing creature / nestled safe within his father’s thigh / sewn into muscle / covered with divinity / protected by the burning seed that made him – Semele’s little god / sent to ration our madness / he is reborn immortal / he is reborn belonging only to himself / he is reborn like those who find the truth in a grape-drunk haze and wake to forgotten revelations / like the earth turns to the sun and back / we all start again /
