Elasticity of Time

When I was in grade school,

the last few weeks of class

before summer escape

from an exercise

of tedium at best,

sterile rote learning

that even bored the teachers,

unregulated bullying

oppressing the smart,

the non-athletic,

combining with all the faults

of a failing system

to make time pass

slower and slower,

the closer it came

to day of release.
