No is not a dancer—

It’s two letters

that slide through your door

and lie flat on the carpet

until you get home.

You open the door

and the lone vowel closes

leaving the stiff consonant

out of a dance

you forgot to dance

because that white

slip of paper holds

one typed word

and you already know

it’s not a dancer.
