Toward sunlight

the dog makes the effort

to get right between us

while we are both sitting

and snug on the sofa.

when we are each

in different rooms

she usually goes

to my wife.

I'm not jealous;

I suppose

it's natural. even on a shelf

surrounded by books

flowers will point

toward sunlight.
